Sewing Is an Ideal Creative Activity for Children

Sewing Is an Ideal Creative Activity for Children

At age 8-12, children have the mental capacity to learn the basic concepts and sufficient manual dexterity to operate a sewing machine.  It’s actually the perfect age at which to learn.

Sewing is an ideal creative activity for children.  It develops their manual dexterity, hand/eye co-ordination, and encourages focus and concentration. Completing a sewing project from start to finish fosters a sense of accomplishment that can boost a child’s morale and self-confidence. And it’s really great fun! Plus, it gives them a huge sense of achievement and self-worth.

Because they’re having such a great time, they don’t actually realise how many valuable sewing skills they are learning which will stay with them for life.

Kidz Kappers is our “hands on” sewing program that will teach children foundation sewing skills with which they will make some easy sewing projects.

Who is this aimed at?

Primarily our “hands on” program is designed for children who have not sewn, or sewn much before.  We start at the beginning with the basics and give the children a foundation to expand their love of sewing.  It is suitable for both boys and girls who are aged 8 years or older.

When will it happen?

Activities of this program are planned around the Queensland’s school holiday periods.

What will the program entail?

This program consists of a number of facilitated sessions that will inspire creativity and build life-long basic skills all while having fun at the same time!

During at our July school holidays’ Kidz Kappers we had four young participants who thoroughly enjoyed their experience as well as learnt heaps.   In the week following we received a couple of photos from the mum of one our budding couture.  The attached photos show how she used her developing sewing skills to make scrunchies for her sister, three of their friends and herself ready for their school athletes carnival.  Absolutely mind-blowing to see such confidence and heart-warming to know that a practical skill such as sewing is valued and shared still as it has been for many past generations.
